Hand Rejuvenation

Aside from the face and neck, the hands are the most visible parts of the body. Unfortunately, like the face and neck, the hands begin to take on an aged appearance with the passage of time and unprotected sun exposure. As the collagen and soft tissues thin, the skin becomes affected by wrinkles and age spots and the underlying structures (tendons and veins) of the hand become more prominent.

At The Hand Center at Crawford Plastic Surgery, Dr. Steven Bailey offers hand rejuvenation services to patients in Kennesaw, Marietta, Atlanta, and all across Georgia. The effective hand rejuvenation treatments that we offer can restore a more youthful appearance to the hands.

Adding Volume

Dr. Bailey may recommend the use of dermal fillers or fat to plump up the skin on the hands. This treatment offers two major benefits.

First, it can minimize the appearance of veins, tendons, and bone, which become more noticeable as the fatty tissues in the hands deplete and the skin becomes thinner. Dr. Bailey will carefully inject the appropriate amount of filler/fat just under the skin, adding the volume that is needed to produce a smoother and more youthful appearance.

Second, dermal fillers/fat can reduce the appearance of wrinkles and loose skin. Dr. Bailey will inject the filler material/ fat into any existing fine lines and wrinkles to plump up the skin.

Dr. Bailey uses JUV?DERM? or fat, which offers reliable and natural results.

Improving Skin Discoloration and Texture

In addition to the appearance of veins and wrinkles, patients may be unhappy with the appearance of age spots, as well as areas of poor skin texture. These imperfections develop in response to exposure to environmental elements, such as the wind and sun.

Patients may notice that they have age spots, which are flat, circular areas of brown discoloration. Or, the texture of the skin may appear uneven, rough, or dull. These problems can be treated with skin treatments, including:

Chemical Peels

Chemical peels involve the use of a solution that causes the old, damaged layers of skin to peel off, revealing smoother and fresher skin underneath. Patients may experience some redness and scaling in the days after the chemical peel. After about a week, these side effects dissipate, and patients experience rejuvenated hands with even skin color and improved texture.

Laser Treatment

Laser treatments for the hands involve the use of a hand-held device that delivers controlled pulses of laser light that tighten the skin, minimize the appearance of wrinkles, and reduce hyperpigmentation. The laser treatment can result in redness and darkened age spots in the days immediately following treatment. By a week after treatment, these side effects have subsided, producing even toned skin with fewer wrinkles.

Patients may undergo a series of chemical peels and laser treatments to achieve the best possible results. Other treatments to rejuvenate the hands include professional skin care products.
